Last month we had a blast hosting the Kid & Family Booth at the Rose City Farmers Market. We read Sophie’s Squash by Pat Zietlow and planted our very own squash in egg cartons. Questions from the kids were answered by farmer Courtney and it was so precious to see these little people carrying their very own garden right in their hands.
This Saturday we are back and ready to see you all again! And we have exciting news! We will be assisting in the preparation and revealing of a new project called “Chef Phil’s Kitchen Garden.” The East Texas Food Coalition and Juls have teamed up to create and plant a community garden on site that will be harvested to use in the fantastic dishes served in the restaurant. This garden will also serve as an educational tool for our community and Juls’ Chef Phil plans to teach our Farmers Market Kids how to prepare the fresh fare in his kitchen in the coming months. Isn’t this exciting?!
We can’t do this alone and we need your help!
Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. – noon, we will host a Garden Raising! Come ready to pour soil and plant veggies with your family, church group, co-workers and friends! The Market will be open with dozens of Mother’s Day specials, live music will be playing, and Chef Phil plans to treat everyone who comes to work with drinks and appetizers. Once we have successfully planted we will all gather together in celebration and hope for the future!
Help us spread the word and plan to be a part! What better way to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend than to plant beauty into our Mother Earth?
I am so thrilled to see you all and your sweet kids again this Saturday! I am hoping to meet some new faces as well! Please stop by our booth and share in the excitement and preparation of the Kitchen Garden!
Keep it local, folks! More to come….
